Every time a thought-provoking Bollywood movie releases, we know it won’t go down the throat of people who are extremely sensitive or the Indian Censor Board.

On that note, Here’s a list of  Top Ten Bollywood Movies that have courted controversies.

1. Padmavat (2018)

Padmavat has traveled a controversial journey from “Padmavati” to “Padmavat”.Rumors that the movie shows an affair between Rajput Queen Padmavati and the Mughal invader Allaudin Khiljhi. Karni Sena, a Rajput caste group have opposed the release of the film.Although,the movie is scheduled to release on 25th January 2017.But,yet the flame of controversy is not set to rest.

This is bollywood controversial movie of 2017.Though the movie received accolades in film festivals  and also won the Oxfom Award for Best Film on Gender Equality,the censor board had a  problem with the bold content of “women’s’ sexual fantasies”.The movie later came out of  the mess and was released on 21st July 2017.

3. Udta Punjab (2016)

The movie came into news because of its bold content.This movie showed the uncontrolled use of drugs in Punjab.Some felt that it was bringing Punjab in a bad light.The CBFC wanted to cut all the abusive content and the references to Punjab.The movie was later critically acclaimed.

4. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016)

                              ae dil hai mushkilKaran Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai  Bachchan entered into controversy because of the Pakistani co-actor Fawad Khan. After the  Uri  attacks,the members of the COEAI (Cinema Owners Exhibitors Association of India)  decided  that no movies with Pakistani celebrities in it will be released in it.Most of the  scenes of the Pakistani actor were cut before the release of the film.

5.My Name is Khan (2010)             my name is khan  

The sentiments of Shiv Sena were hurt when Shahrukh Khan said that he would want         Pakistani players to play in IPL. This created negative reaction,threatening SRK to stop the realease of the movie.

6.Sins (2005)   sins                        

The movie starring Shiney Ahuja, was based on true events of a Catholic priest romantically   involved with young woman.The Christian community was outraged and hence the movie   was banned.

7.Black Friday (2004)

The Anurag Kashyap movie was based on true events of 1993 of the bomb blasts in Mumbai.It was banned because the verdict was still pending in the court and it was said that the movie would influence the decision taken by court.The movie was banned for 2 years.

Members of Shiv Sainik and Bajrang Dal protested against the theme of the movie which was lesbianism.This was the first movie to explicitly show a homosexual relation between two women which stirred negative reactions from the audience.

This movie by  Shekhar Kapur , was based on the life of Phoolan Devi,  is one of the most controversial movies of Bollywood.The CBFC banned the movie because of its nude scenes,rape scenes and abusive language. However after its release, it bagged three National Awards.

10. Aandhi (1975)                                                 aandhi                                

This movie did not have any bold content,but was rumored to based on the life of Indira Gandhi.It was banned during her governance.However later,when BJP came into power the ban was lifted.It was also aired on Doordarshan.
